Description
File# 0899 The Douglas RB-26C Invader 'AHAULIN' as displayed in 2007 at the Planes of Fame museum, Valle, AZ - USA.
The Douglas A-26 Invader severed in the European and Pacific theaters of WWII from September 1944. The roles of bomber, night-fighter and ground attack aircraft were envisaged for the type, but it was for air-to-ground roles that production aircraft were ordered.
A-26s were known as B-26s in 1948, after the last Martin B-26 Marauders were retired.
Almost too late for combat in WWII, the 'Invader' was destined for service during the Korean War and even flew, in refurbished form, during the Vietnam conflict.
