Description
File# 0890 Nose art on Commemorative Air Force Consolidated LB-30B Liberator "Diamond LiL" painted in 2012 by Velasco as displayed at the American Air Power Musrum, Farmingdale, LI, NY in 2015.
The first members of the Liberator family to enter service were the six LB-30As (YB-24s). Without self-sealing fuel tanks they were deemed unsuitable for operational use and served as transports with RAF Ferry Command.
The first major production Liberator variant for the USAAF was the B-24D, with the 3-ft nose extension first seen in the RAF's Liberator Mk II (LB-30)' and a powered tail turret
