The Boeing B-17G 'Flying Fortress' was one of the most famous airplanes ever built. It served in every combat zone of WWII, but is beat known for its daylight strategic bombing of German industrial targets. A total of 12,726 were built during thewar. In March 1944 'Shoo Shoo Shoo Baby' was assigned to the 91st Bomb Group at Bassingbourn, England. It flew 24 combat missions in WWII, receiving flak damage seven times. In 1968 the plane was found abandoned in France. The French government presented it to the USAF in 1968. It underwent a ten-year restoration by the 512th Antique Restoration Group at Dover AFB, Delaware. It was then flown back to the Air Force Museum in 1988. It is considered by many as the best restored B-17 in the world today.
