Description
File# 0875 The nose art on a WWII Consolidated B-24D Liberator in 2007 at the National Museum of the USAF.
The Consolidated B-24 'Liberator' was employed in every theater during WWII. Because of its great range, it was well suited for such missions as the famous raids from North Africa against the oil industry at Ploesti, Romania, on August 1, 1943. This feature also made the B-24 suitable for long over-water missions in the
Pacific Theater. Over 18,000 were produced, more than any other American combat plane. The B-24D 'Strawberry Bitch', pictured, flew combat missions from North Africa in 1943-44 with the 512th Bomb Squadron.
