Description
File# 0915 The nose and paint scheme on a former RCAF Curtiss P-40M Mk.III 'Kittyhawk' displayed as a P-40 Warhawk belonging to the.'Flying Tigers'.
The P-40 flew in every theater of the war - a remarkable 13,143 of these fighters were built - and gave good service. Unfortunately, it was overshadowed by more glamorous warplanes that came along during the war years. Curtis, it seemed lacked the imagination to change with the times, and the P-40 became the last aircraft to be built in large numbers by a company with a proud and historic name.
The Netherlands East indies Air Force (NEIAF) fought Indonesian rebels, the P-40s remaining in use until 1949 - the last P-40s to see combat.
